Our personal tax season process (core season: Feb 20 – April 30)

How your return moves from pre-season to filed — with what the firm and the client do at each stage, side by side.

Feb–MarPre-season

Pre-season communication

Firm

Pre-season communication and correspondence — emails with updates on tax changes from the previous year and notes on this year’s process.

Client

Begin receiving tax slips from employers, investments, and other entities, and start collecting your documents for submission.

Mid-MarIntake

Client intake form

Firm

Send out the client intake form, which gathers any updates relevant to the current tax season.

Client

Complete the client intake form — it takes roughly 5–12 minutes and flags any changes in your situation for this year.

March 15 – April 20 · Preparation, review & filing
Once your documents are received, the four steps below typically take 7–14 days. Our objective is to file every return at least 10 days before the deadline — subject to timely submission.
Step 1Setup

Engagement letter & portal

Firm

Once intake forms are received, we review your information and send an engagement letter, a secure document-portal link, and a checklist of common deductions and expected information.

Client

Complete the engagement letter and prepare to submit your documents to the secure portal.

Step 2Queries

Queries

Firm

Once information is received, T1 preparation begins, and any questions or queries are sent to you for clarification.

Client

Be ready to respond to questions to keep the return moving through to completion.

Step 3Review

Summary

Firm

We provide a detailed summary of your return, along with any flags, recommendations, or insights.

Client

Review the summary and sign the forms required to e-file the return, plus any supporting documentation.

Step 4Filing

Completion

Firm

We e-file your return and provide PDF copies through our encrypted sharing tool, NoteShred.

Client

Save the documents locally for future reference, and keep supporting records for at least 7 years in case of CRA review.

Ready to get started?

Send us a quick note about your situation and we'll confirm a fixed price before any work begins. No surprises at billing time.

About these prices: The figures shown are starting points and typical ranges, not a quote. Returns are prepared based on time and complexity, and the final fee depends on the documents provided, the work required to organize them, and any tax planning involved. Filings with material complexity outside the listed add-ons (e.g., non-resident filings, deceased returns, voluntary disclosures, extensive CRA correspondence) are quoted separately. All amounts are in CAD and exclude GST. Steven Alexander CPA Inc. · hello@stevenalexander.cpa · (604) 359-1775 · Chilliwack, BC.

Corporate pricing — coming next

The corporate tab will follow the same approach: a clear base fee for a standard T2 with add-ons for the situations that drive complexity. Let Steven know what scenarios should be modelled and we'll wire them up.
